Within Walking Distance
Owen Thorpe Ceramics
Meet Owen and Angela a few doors up the road. Visit, buy or commission some pottery from Owen or an original print from Angela.
The Miners Arms
Lovely old-fashioned pub about 200 yards away. Family run business with beer garden and live music on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month. Handmade pizzas on Wednesday and Saturday (orders only). Dogs and walkers welcome. Best to visit early, busiest from 5.30-8pm.
Mitchells Fold Stone Circle
It’s a lovely 30 minute walk from the cottage, or you can park if you don’t want to do the hill.
It’s not exactly Stonehenge, but has lovely views and a nice stroll. Pop into the Miners Arms on your way back.
Corndon Hill
The impressive flat topped hill you will see as you approach us if you come from Shrewsbury direction. You can walk from up Lan Fawr, the smaller hill that you can see from In the Hills, and continue up. Impressive views and Bronze Age burial cairns around the summit. This walk can be combined with Mitchells Fold.
Roundton Hill Nature Reserve
Iron Age hillfort, later mined now area as an Area of Special Scientific Interest.

Less than 20 Minutes Away
Montgomery
Well worth a visit. A delightful Welsh town about 4 miles away. You must visit ‘Bunners’ traditional ironmongers. There’s a few cafes and Checkers restaurant (they gave back their Michelin Star) do food to go. The castle ruin is a 10 minute walk up the hill towards the war memorial for fantastic views. The town also has a couple of small museums, as well as Monty’s Brewery.
Bishops Castle
Small market town and centre for live music arts and crafts. Boasts the oldest licensed brewery in the country.
Powys Castle
Beautiful castle and lovely gardens. In the extensive grounds you can see deer roaming around.
Stiperstones and Long Mynd
One of Shropshire’s most well-known areas and very popular with walkers. At the heart of the Shropshire Hills with a wealth of wildlife, the area is steeped in history and folklore. This is easily a day out, probably two, as there is so much to see, visit and explore.
The Bridges at Rattlinghope
Lovely little pub with a stream to paddle in. Great come back to after a day exploring the Shropshire Hills.
Offas Dyke
Anglo Saxon earthwork border between Wales and England.
Welshpool
Traditional Welsh market town and the nearest large town to the cottage. Welshpool has a range of high street shops, a leisure centre and railway station.
Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway
There is also the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway which operates from Caereinion to Welshpool and takes about 2 hours for a round trip.
Kerry Vale Vineyard
Small local vineyard.
30 or More Minutes Away
Shrewsbury
Just 30 minutes drive. The county town and perfect to spend a day or two wandering the independent shops, visiting the castle and abbey, or strolling along the banks of the River Severn as it loops around the town. Shrewsbury boasts a huge variety of restaurants and cafes.
Ironbridge Gorge and Museum
The birthplace of the industrial revolution. This could take several days as there is so much to see – the Victorian town, Blists Hill, the tileworks, the ironworks and of course the famous iron bridge.
Church Stretton
Small market town in the heart of the Shropshire Hills. Great starting point for walking and cycling this part of the hills. Antique centre great for picking up something unusual.
Ludlow
Thriving medieval town with castle. Famous for its food festivals.
Wroxeter
Vineyard and Roman remains.
Acton Scott
Historic working farm as featured on TV’s Victorian Farm.
Stokesay Castle
Finest and best-preserved fortified medieval manor house in England.
